So a few weeks ago Chris and I found out that we are expecting Hughes Baby Number 2! Whoa! It is just starting to sink in and feel more real as my stomach is just beginning to pooch out at night. During the day, all is normal, but at night man do I look pregnant! I guess it's true the second time around things just stretch out faster! :) We have told Miss Katherine, but she is still pretty much clueless. The grandparents on the other hand are over the moon excited. :) I went in for my 10 week check up last week and I now have an official due date of July 16! Whoo hoo! This causes several problems in that my cousin's wedding is July 18...in Virginia...oy! And there will be lots of people vying for specific dates that the baby is born. For example, my Grandfather, Grandmother, Uncle Doug and Aunt Marty all have birthdays in July. And then there is the wedding of course of my cousin and my parents anniversary. So we have a pretty darn good chance of hitting someone's big day. :) I have a feeling that this little one is a girl, but then again, I thought Katherine was a boy, so I've given up on trusting my intuition. ;) We'll find out for sure around Katherine's second birthday in February. Well hopefully anyway...Katherine was rather stubborn and refused to show us whether she was a girl or boy until the day before she was BORN!
We are officially ready for Christmas with the exception of a few last minute items that are due to arrive in the mail today. :) Friday I spent three hours wrapping Christmas presents and getting them under the tree...yeah...Katherine woke up from her nap and immediately unwrapped the presents I had JUST finished. So we had to have a little "chat" about NOT opening the presents until Christmas. Luckily they weren't her presents, so she is still clueless as to what she is getting. Whew! Katherine and I are working today and then the rest of the week we are cleaning and baking for Christmas Day! Christmas is not complete without homemade Cinnamon Buns made from scratch (my grandma's recipe!). So I will be breaking out the flour, cinnamon, sugar and butter and making LOTS of cinnamon buns this week! :)
Katherine is still growing like a weed and her vocabulary is improving. Her favorite words now are NO! and Please...she has figured out that if she says Please she can get whatever she wants! :) It's just so darn cute! She has also mastered "SIT!" Which she repeats over and over and over again to Colby...he doesn't seem to understand because he has yet to obey, but it's not for lack of trying on Katherine's part! :) She is also becoming quite the daredevil. Last week Chris and I put her to bed and then went into our room to read. Well about 15 minutes after we put her down we hear this happy squealing sound. We think, what the heck is she doing?! So we march over to her room to check on her...I open the door and look in her crib to find her doing a HEADSTAND in her crib?! First of all, I have NO idea where the heck she learned to do that, but she was just happy as a clam standing on her head. I just shook my head and left her to her gymnastics. We heard squealing for the next 30 minutes before she FINALLY called it a night. She's also really big into climbing now. I was cleaning up in the kitchen the other night and looked over to find Katherine sitting in the middle of the desk...how she got up there I have NO idea, but she did!
Well I guess that about sums up the events around the Hughes Household lately! I'm sure we'll have lots of pictures to post later this week.
Merry Christmas!!!

We're ready for Christmas!
Yeah, I know that Thanksgiving is still a few days away, but we are ready for CHRISTMAS!! :) Last night in a fit of productiveness we got the tree down from the attic (no easy feat mind you!), put the tree up, decorated it, got the stockings up and changed our radio station in the house to the Christmas music one! Whoo hoo! Katherine is completely in love with the tree and lights. Although, she REALLY wants to take the ornaments off of the tree...we'll have to keep an eye on her. ;o) Luckily the breakable ornaments are up HIGH! I thought we'd have to worry about Colby...not! :) Now to make it feel really like Christmas I need to whip up a batch of homemade cinnamon buns...then it will truly be Christmas in the Hughes household. ;) I have a feeling that the "cold" weather we have had for the past week was a force in making it feel like Christmas down here. We were quite unhappy to have the heat on for a full week! I think we may have had the heat on for that long in the past three years COMBINED! What's up with all this cold weather?! Luckily today it is supposed to be back in the upper 70s and tomorrow it should hit 80! Thank goodness! We're grumpy when it gets down into the 60s and any lower makes up REALLY unhappy. :(
Well I would love to put up new pictures of Miss Katherine from last night, but unfortunately we brought the camera home and left the memory card at the shop...doh! So hopefully I will get the memory card back today and we can take pictures of Miss Katherine and the tree tonight. I do have a couple from last weekend that are posted below. Hope everyone is doing well!!
Happy Thanksgiving!!

Halloween Weekend
Happy Halloween to everyone! We had a pretty neat weekend. Friday we got Katherine all dressed up as her Pumpkin self and went outside to watch the trick or treaters and to give out candy. She was mesmerized by all the other kids. It was very cute. She also managed to figure out how to get a piece of candy of our bowls and to open the packaging...she had chocolate all over EVERYTHING! It was quite entertaining. There was one little guy about her size that came trick or treating in a motorized car/stroller thingy...she was quite taken with the little man. She wanted to give him her half eaten candy and then she wanted to give him a high five...very cute. After about an hour and a half of trick or treaters, Katherine was POOPED! So we headed inside for bed and bath. She was wiped out!
Saturday Daddy headed into work and Katherine and I work little worker bees around the house. We got the house cleaned and straightened, went to the grocery store and baked a pumpkin pie from scratch. We were very proud of our accomplishments by the time Daddy got home. Daddy did manage one surprise of his own. I was in the shower and had Katherine in the bathroom with me and I was just talking and singing to Katherine trying to keep her entertained while I took a super quick shower, so I finished, opened the curtain and said "Boo" to try and scare katherine...yeah...Christopher was standing there holding her and I had NO idea he had even come in. I think I lost about 10 years of my life. Katherine thought the whole thing was HILARIOUS, me on the other hand, was still trying to figure out how to breathe again! One bummer note on Saturday...BOTH of our teams lost close games. :( Not a good day for football.
Sunday we went to church and Sunday school and then headed to Grandma and Grandaddy Corell's for some planning for our business. Katherine of course was super excited to wear her pumpkin outfit again to show Grandma and Grandaddy Corell. She was pretty darn cute! We came home last night and due to the time change she was past ready for bed at 7pm! YIKES! We managed to keep her up until 8:15, so she did sleep until 7:25 this morning. Thank goodness! I was afraid she would get up around 5:30...that would not be a good thing for the Mommy!
Today was pretty crazy as we had a computer upgrade at the shop. Tomorrow looks to be just as crazy as I will be joining the masses waiting in line to vote...with a toddler...hopefully the people in line will have patience! :)
Have a great week!

I'm Back!!
Ok, so I have had numerous e mails regarding the fact that I am super delinquent in posting a new update! SORRY!!! It has been a CRAZZZZZYYYYYY few weeks in the Hughes household! Since I last posted Chris has gone out of town twice for a total of 9 days, I served on Jury Duty (oh whooppee!), Katherine got sick...three times, Katherine and I worked at the shop every single day, I had a Session meeting (which meant Daddy had to babysit), the Cici and Grandpa Hughes came down for a visit, we received the Jump-O-Lene (greatest toy EVER!) and UVa won THREE football games...yes you saw that correctly...THREE...IN A ROW...and two were ranked teams! I think I went to sleep and woke up in a dream...but it is apparently true! OH OH OH...and West Point won TWICE! Whoo hoo!!! The Hughes clan has been VERY happy these past few weeks! :)

Giving CiCi kisses
Katherine is still growing like a weed and starting to talk a little more everyday. She now says "bye bye" and boy does she have the Southern Drawl going on! Guess she gets that from me. ;o) She also says bubble, hello, woof woof, no, more, CiCi, etc. I was beginning to get worried that the poor kiddo would never talk, but the past few days she has said something new almost everyday, so I guess she just wasn't ready to talk yet! :)
It is FREEZING cold here today, but that actually turned out to be a good thing. Katherine and I visited the Pumpkin Patch this morning with her Lab School buddies and her costume was perfect for the cold weather. She is a pumpkin this year and the costume is all fleece, so if it were a normal October day she would have sweated to death in it! :) She was quite cute if I do say so myself. There is a picture below...it's from my cell phone since we lost my camera, but at least you can get the idea what the lil pumpkin looked like! :) She also is OBSESSED with being outside. I pity the fool that tries to bring her inside for dinner...cause it is NOT pretty. I swear the neighbors are going to call Child Protection Services on us, and all we do is pick the poor child up and take her inside for dinner...by her screaming you would think that we were strangling her. Oh well! At least she isn't a couch potato! :) Her hair is getting longer, and just as curly as can be. It's starting to get a little darker, but still very much a blondy! :)
Well I guess that about sums up everything in the Hughes world. I'm hoping the next few weeks won't be as crazy, but you never can tell with us!
Until next time!

Happy October!
Ok, so I seem to be getting worse and worse about keeping this thing up to date! Yikes! We have been incredibly busy at the shop for the past few weeks as usual. Chris has won a bunch of jobs which all seem to be hitting at the same time, so that means work, work, work for the Hughes clan! :)
Katherine is growing like a weed still and we had another tooth pop through last week! Thank goodness, because it was a killer. We had quite a grump on our hands for a few days. She is officially out of her 12 month clothes and now fits pretty well into her 18 month outfits. There are still some pants/skirts that will fall completely off if she stands up, but the 12 month stuff does not fit at all. She stepped onto the scale a few days ago and it said 23 pounds! She is also getting taller, but we haven't managed to measure her in a while. She has started saying a few words like "bye, bye" and "bubble" but other than that she still refuses to use her words! I'm told to be patient, but I have a feeling that she will all of a sudden starting talking all the time and I will be wondering why I ever wanted her to talk in the first place! Ha! :) We went searching for a Christmas dress this past weekend, but no such luck. We did, however, find her Halloween costume...she's going to be a pumpkin! :) I will be sure to post pictures when she wears it. She definitely has preferences on shoes now as well. If I say that we need to put our shoes on, she will go and find which pair she wants to wear and you had better put those on...if you try her other pair there will be heck to pay! :) I don't know where she gets her opinionated personality from?! haha!
Chris and I had a date night this week thanks to my parents (Dad was watching Katherine so I could go to the dentist and they offered to just keep her for the night! How sweet! Thanks Mom and Dad!) and we went to see Fireproof the movie. I highly recommend it to everyone! It's a movie produced by a church in Georgia and the plot is about a couple going through a rough time and how they handle it. Definitely a great movie! It's only out in select theaters, so you may have to check your local area to see where it is playing if you are interested. Our Sunday School class recommended it and everyone that has seen it has said it was by far one of the greatest movies ever. We had fun! :)
I think that about sums up life in the Hughes household for now. Chris has a crazy couple of weeks planned, so it may be a bit before I write again.
OH! I almost forgot! We actually had a pretty terrific football weekend in the Hughes house as well! The Cavaliers stomped Maryland and the Black Knights (West Point) beat Tulane! Not sure how either of our teams managed these wins, but we'll take them! This might be the only good weekend we have for the rest of the season! :)
Here are some pictures of Miss Katherine in her new ladybug outfit that she wore to church this morning. Enjoy!

Week of Sept 15
Well this past week was yet again a crazy week! Imagine that?! Monday was Uncle Cory's Birthday!!! Happy Birthday Uncle Cory!! :) We weren't able to celebrate with him since he is in Blacksburg, but we were thinking about him anyway!
Tuesday we had Lab School and then that night I had my very first Session Meeting at church...I've been drafted to be the new Clerk of the Session. So, Christopher came home in time to keep Katherine and I headed South to church. The meeting was fairly uneventful for me, but as I heard when I got home, it was a VERY eventful time for the Hughes clan at home! In fact the first words out of Christopher's mouth when I walked in the door was "don't even ask." Yikes! Apparently Katherine was very cranky and tired after I left and she spent the first little while laying in front of the garage door waiting for me to return...uh oh! Then Christopher took her on a bike ride, which is usually her favorite activity. They went to the park and she got in the swing and had a blast...then it was time to go home....She apparently threw herself around like a wild animal and screamed at the top of her lungs when Christopher tried to put her back int he bike seat...and she screamed ALL THE WAY HOME! I'm sure our neighbors think we are crazy! So then she screamed, cried and carried on the entire rest of the evening through her bath until Christopher finally put her to bed at 7:15! I think Christopher now appreciates when I say "I'm done, she's yours" when he walks in sometimes at night. There are days where you have just reached your limit and at least now someone other than me has seen her at her most challenging time! :)

Wednesday we went to Bible Study and then to the shop. She did pretty well at the shop that afternoon considering she was WORN out when we got there. Thursday and Friday were more of the same at the shop. We actually we able to clean up and organize my office at the shop on Friday afternoon, and this was a big plus! Normally it looks like Tornado Katherine has come through (which she has!).
Saturday I got my hair cut and then we went to the shop so that Katherine could take a nap while Christopher and I got some much needed catch up work done! :) Afterwards we headed to Sam's Club and Target for a few things. Katherine was totally enthralled with the Halloween displays at Sam's Club and wanted to take one home with us. Luckily we managed to get out of the store without one! They are HUGE! OH...and we had a GREAT football day today...UVa was off! :) We can't lose that way! :)
Sunday we went to church and then to the grocery store. Katherine has a new favorite food now...it's watermelon. And let me tell you, when she likes something, she LOVES it. I bought a quarter of a watermelon to cut up and when I put that in the cart she about had a heart attack trying to get into the back of the cart to eat it right then! People were looking at me like "what is wrong with that kid?" She just LOVES watermelon! :) And when we eat watermelon, she gets the juice EVERYWHERE! After grocery shopping, we came home and took a 3 hour nap...this is a big time victory!!! When she woke up we headed to Beall's and Steinmart looking for new khaki's for Dad...no luck. So we came home and tried to call Grandad to wish him a Happy Birthday...unfortunately we missed him, but we were thinking about him! Happy Birthday Grandad!!! Chris then called CiCi (his mom) and Katherine "talked" to CiCi on the phone...and the big news is she FINALLY said "CiCi"!!!! The only words she really says are hello, hiya, dada, and occasionally mama. She wouldn't say it when we held the phone up to her, but as soon as she thought no one was listening she was walking around grinning and saying "CiCi." It was SO cute!
That about wraps up our last week. This week should be a little calmer, we hope anyway! :)
Happy Birthday again to Cory and Grandad!!

Pictures from the past few weeks
We keep going and going and going and going
Instead of the Hughes Family, I feel like lately we should be called the Energizer bunnies! We just keep going and going and going and going! Since my last post we have been at the shop almost every single day working, interviewing new electricians, planning for next year, shopping for copier/printers and a new server and computer firm to keep our computers up and running. Also in the past few weeks Katherine started her first week of Lab School, I began a new Bible Study at church, the new gym we have been waiting on finally opened this week, we have hired two new people at the shop, and I have been drafted for a new volunteer position at the church! Crazy doesn't even begin to describe us at the moment! :) At least we aren't bored though. That is a good thing.
Katherine is growing like a darn weed and is becoming more and more independent by the minute. She wasn't too thrilled with her first day of Lab School as she was very unsure of what exactly was going on, but by the end of her first day she didn't want to leave! Lab School is a program put on by the local community college for parents and kids. For her age group, you meet once a week from 9:30 to noon. Basically the kids do arts and crafts, play, have music and snack and then go home worn out! :) It was really interesting to watch Katherine with the other kids, she didn't mind playing with them and she didn't mind sharing, in fact one little boy took the toy right out of her hands twice and she just looked at me like "oh well, I didn't really want to play with it anyway." I was very impressed. I think if I were her, I would have been quite peeved! :) The interesting thing though was that she was the first to do everything, but then quickly tired of the activity when everyone else joined in, by the time the other kids were playing, she was ready to move onto the next room or activity. At snack time, she was the only kid that ate the fruit. I was very surprised by this since I figured most kids like fruit! Everyone else stuck to the sweet potato chips that a mom had brought in, but not Katherine...she wanted watermelon...and LOTS of it. By the time we left she was drenched in watermelon juice. Little did I know how badly watermelon stains! Ugh! Good thing she wore an already stained outfit as a precaution!
She stayed in the nursery while I went to Bible Study this week and she LOVED it. She did not want to leave when I came to pick her up. She has become quite fond of Miss Trish and Miss Marilyn. They are the same ladies that keep the nursery on Sunday mornings, so she was quite thrilled to see them on Monday morning. She had so much fun in the nursery that she fell fast asleep on the drive from the church to the shop (about 10 minutes!).
She also LOVES the Kid Fit area at the gym. We have a membership to a chain of gyms in the area, and the new one opened this week about 5 minutes from our house. Chris and I were very excited since it was supposed to open in late spring early summer, and here it is September already! They have a staffed area for the kids to play, which allows me to enjoy the facilities as well! They have an infant, toddler, elementary and big kid area. The staff has been super nice and Katherine loves to stay there while I go and work out for a short while. They even have screens in the workout area that allow you to watch the kids playing while you work out. It's very nice!
The only other big change we have had lately is that Katherine seems to be transitioning from two naps a day to one...this is not a easy transition as she is still ready for a nap in the morning, but if I put her down, then she will not take an afternoon nap and then we are REALLY cranky from about 2:30 on. I'm hoping that we will get over the cranky stage soon as she gets used to the one nap a day. Let's just hope I don't go crazy in the process!!
Well I don't have any new pictures to post (I know I get an F!), but I think that Christopher may have some, so I will check on his camera tonight.
Until next time!

CRAZY few weeks!
Hello! Well I have been MIA for about 2 1/2 weeks. It has been busy, busy, busy in the Hughes household! We started off August with a visit from Cici, the twins and Taylor. Katherine LOVED playing with Taylor's sunglasses and was quite smitten with her overall! She was definitely sad and worn out when they left. They left the same day that Chris headed South to Fort Lauderdale for the week. That Monday was an EARLY morning as Chris was out the door by 3:45am and the Virginia van pulled out around 4:45am. Luckily Katherine slept through all of that commotion, so she was in great spirits throughout the day! :)
Katherine and I were "bachelorettes" for a few days before Uncle Cory arrived. We spent our alone days working at the shop since Chris was gone, we were left to answer questions/cover things for him. Katherine definitely missed her Daddy as she would look at me like "what are you doing here" during bath time. By the end of the week she was especially cranky, but all of that was gone when Daddy walked through the door on Friday evening! :) I think Uncle Cory is now scared to have a kid due to all of the screaming that occurred between his arrival and Dad's homecoming...sorry about that Uncle Cory!
The weekend was a blur as we shopped on Saturday and then Sunday we spent the day at my parents' house swimming and having a birthday bash! We celebrated a ton of family birthdays (Happy Bday Dad, Sandi, Cory and Marty!) and had a ton of fun! Cory headed to the airport that night to pick up his roommate Alex...we then had an even number of Hokies and Wahoos under the same roof...that's dangerous territory! (Katherine counts as a Wahoo...Chris is neither as he couldn't care less about either school's sports)
Monday began the week of TS Fay...ugh! We spent Monday at the shop working with really not much rain or activity going on. Cory and Alex were able to get a whole day in at the beach, so their vacation was not totally spoiled by the wonderful storm. Tuesday morning was rainy, so Katherine and I headed to work as we have a few meetings scheduled for the day. WE got through the day and by the time we headed home around 4:30 the weather was getting pretty treacherous. The wind was pretty strong and the rain was coming down in buckets...well the rain hasn't stopped yet and here it is 9am on THURSDAY! Talk about a serious case of the rainy day blues! Poor Colby hates to get wet, so he has only been outside about 6 times since Tuesday morning. I think he is avoiding drinking water and eating so that he won't have to go out and get wet! Such a silly boy! Katherine on the other hand is fascinated watching the rain blowing horizontally past the windows. So far we are fine and dandy with no damage, other than one lost board on our privacy fence. There is major flooding in low lying areas, but apparently we are not a low lying area as we have minimal standing water around her neighborhood. Chris had to go pick up some of his employees this morning and they actually had to swim out to his giant truck to get in...I don't even want to imagine what is in that water! Also another fun note, the sewage systems south of us are all overloaded and backing up into the roads and homes...glad our sewer system seems to be holding it's own!
Well that's the latest on the happenings in Swampy Melbourne! :) If Fay ever moves, we should be back to sunshine and bright blue skies in no time! :) And hopefully lots of generator sales since 5-10% of the county has been without power!
Week of July 28th
Hello all! Well this week was just as crazy as I anticipated, but overall a fairly good week! As you see in the previous post, Katherine did FINALLY run out of energy and "crash" in her high chair on Tuesday night. Wednesday was the most insane day of the week as Chris and I were both up bright and early and headed in completely opposite directions. He left around 6:30am for the Fort Lauderdale area to work on a job down there, and I left around 7:15am for Orlando and DeLand. I had a doctor's appointment in Orlando and then had to drop some things off for Christopher in DeLand. My mom luckily was able to come and watch Katherine for us and she amazingly was able to get Katherine to take not only one nap, but TWO all in one day! She took an hour nap in the morning and then a 2 1/2 hour nap that afternoon...this was a MAJOR breakthrough since she had refused naps completely for the past week! I was totally excited when I finally got home around 5pm.
Thursday Katherine was NOT in a good mood. We went into the shop after a 2 hour morning nap in order to pay some bills and get somethings wrapped up there, but we weren't there for long. Katherine was quite the little grouch! Needless to say she was in bed early that night! ;o)
Friday we headed to the shop early in the morning and got the whole place spic and span clean. This is quite a chore as Katherine pretty much made a mess of everything I had just cleaned, but we did manage to finally get everything organized and put away. We came home around lunchtime and took a nap so that she would be ready to leave for dinner around 5pm. We met my parents for dinner to go over some logistics for Saturday morning (we had some interviews for prospective employees set up) and Katherine was not at all amused to be at the restaurant. Mom and I ended up scarfing down our dinner and taking Katherine outside to play before the other patrons of the restaurant got annoyed with us.
Saturday morning we were up bright and early headed for my Grandfather's house to drop Miss Katherine off with GiGi, Joe Joe, Aunt Marty and Uncle Blake. We didn't think she would politely sit through interviews, so we figured this would be better! As we got within 1/4 mile of my grandfather's house Katherine decides that she is going to be sick...and sick she was! ALL over EVERYTHING, including the front seat! So my dad meets us outside with towels and we immediately strip Katherine down...but wait! Bad Mommy forgot to pack a change of clothes! UGH! So we throw all of her nasty clothes into the wash and let her run around with a diaper on. We striped the car seat cover off and threw that in as well. GROSS! Chris and I loaded up and headed to the shop as we were just 15 minutes away from our meeting time with the interviewee and we were about 15 minutes away from the shop! YIKES! We get there, interview the person and then Mom and I head back down to Granddaddy's to get Katherine. Luckily her wonderful Aunt Marty and Uncle Blake had washed her up in the bathtub and washed her hair, so she smelled great! :) She was running around like a crazy person, so I figured that she was over whatever it was that she had earlier. I put the car seat back together and loaded her up...yeah...I totally forgot to throw the seat belts into the wash, so the car seat STILL stinks! YUCK! We go grab some lunch and Katherine wants nothing to do with food or drink, so we hurriedly bundle her back into the car and head for home. She took a 2 hour nap and then got up and had a few saltines and apple juice. She also managed to get down some chicken noodle soup for dinner, which was very exciting since she hadn't eaten anything all day long.
Sunday we woke up at 2am with Katherine crying. She had a fever around 102 degrees and was sweating. So I got some more Tylenol in her system and she managed to drink a lot of watered down apple juice before conking back out for the night. She slept until 8am after that! When she woke up she didn't have a fever at all, so we are hoping that the worst is over. She also ate breakfast...milk and saltines. She marched herself right over the pantry, pulled the saltines down and handed them to me, then she turned around and walked over to her high chair and looked at me like "OK, I'm ready to eat Mom!" It was really cute.

The Energizer Bunny Finally Runs Out of Energy!
Katherine refused to take a nap all day on Tuesday and was pretty much just running in complete circles around the house all day long...which wore Mommy slam out! After attempting to take a nap twice with zero luck, I finally gave up on the idea and tried to keep her entertained as much as possible. So we made it through the day and I fixed us dinner. As I was clearing the table I noticed that she wasn't chattering like her normal self, so I turn around and she is sound asleep in her high chair, with food all over her bib. I guess she fell asleep mid-chew or something because she was out! I quickly clean up the kitchen and start the bath so that I can put her to bed. Of course the second she gets in the bath she's WIDE awake. If she hadn't been covered in food, I would have put her straight to bed. Oh well. It turned out well since she was able to see Daddy when he got home before I put her to bed. I of course had my real camera battery charging at the time she was asleep in her high chair, so I was forced to take pictures with my cell phone. They aren't the best quality, but you get the idea anyway! Here are pictures of her fast asleep and then what she looked like after her bath.

Week of July 21st
Well last week turned out to be pretty busy...as if I should have expected anything less?! Luckily there weren't many bid due this week, so Chris was able to come home at a decent hour most days! :) Katherine especially LOVES it when Daddy comes home early enough to play with her. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were our normal busy days working at the shop, running errands, cleaning around the house, etc. On Wednesday Miss Katherine turned 17th Months old! We are one month away from 1 1/2 years old! WHOA! Anyway, this day also coincided with a drastic change in Katherine's sleep schedule. Normally this chica sleeps from 7:30-8ish at night until 7:30-8ish the next morning and then takes two 2 hour naps during the day. NOT ANYMORE! Wednesday morning she woke up at 6:15am...ugh...and then decided that she was not only not going to take 2 naps that day, but her one nap was only going to be a short cat nap of about 30 minutes. YIKES! So by the time Daddy got home for dinner on Wednesday night we had quite the little tyrant on our hands. This new schedule also screwed up Mommy's work schedule and therefore threw everything right out of whack. After all I am the super scheduled, planner mom...DO NOT mess with my schedule! hahaha.
Thursday and Friday were more of the same, up early, one nap for maybe 45mins to an hour and then down around 8pm. By Saturday I was worn out! Saturday morning Katherine and I were up and out of the house by 7:30am and off to get my hair cut and meet my parents for breakfast. Chris wanted to go on a bike ride and my parents had been out of town for two weeks in Orlando, so off we went. Katherine managed to survive both breakfast and the hair salon in one piece...thanks in most part to my Dad who managed to keep her entertained! We hurried home around 10:30 and she could barely keep her eyes open on the trek back home...I thought, "oh goody! She's going to take a nap so now I can take a quick snooze too!!!" WRONG! The second we pulled into the driveway I swear a switch flipped...she looked at me like "Let's go mom, I"m ready to rock and roll!" Ugh! So NO nap on Saturday!
Sunday we went to church as usual and we were hoping that she would wear herself out in the nursery and be ready for a nap after church. We packed her into the car to go home and she could barely keep her eyes open, so we decided to just drive around for a while and she would probably nod off in her car seat...WRONG! She looked out the window, kicked her feet, carried on an entire babble conversation with herself and sang...but NO sleeping. She did finally manage to fall asleep as we pulled into our neighborhood. So then we had lunch and proceeded to try and wear her out...no such luck. We finally gave up on a nap completely and went to the park by our house so that we could at least entertain her! She went down the slide, ran, ran, ran, ran, ran and sat in the swing for a while. I don't know if it wore her out, but it sure wore Chris and I out! :) So we decided to head home for supper. We get into the car pull out onto the road and what do ya know??? She's ASLEEP! Bummer. So we drive ALL over the place for about an hour, all the while she is conked the heck out. But we get an A that she did finally take a nap for the first time in two days! Whoo hoo!!! Now if we can just get her to take a nap in her crib we'll be in business! :)
This week looks to be pretty hectic, so hopefully we'll be still walking by the end of the week! Until next time!

Week of July 14th
Hello all! Well this week turned out to be almost as busy as last week, but not quite...thank goodness! Chris was working on some large bids that were due this week, so that took a lot of time including Monday night working until midnight! Katherine was quite sad when she realized that her Daddy wouldn't be home to give her a bath, but she sucked it up and dealt with boring ole mom. Ha! She is 100% Daddy's little girl! Tuesday proved to be just as hectic, but luckily Daddy didn't have to work quite so late, so he was there to give her a bath...she was super excited about that. Wednesday was insane all the way around. Katherine and I went into the shop to get some work done and were getting ready to head home when all sorts of things kept coming into the shop. Instead of leaving at 3:30pm like we had planned, we left around 6pm! Katherine was a wild woman by the time we left! She was running around the shop like crazy, dancing, singing, tearing the place up...she had a blast...the clean up was not so fun! :) Thursday was pretty calm and Katherine and I managed to catch up on laundry and some house cleaning...thank goodness we were about to run out of clothes! Yikes! Friday was supposed to be an easy going day, but of course plans changed! So instead of working at the shop, Katherine and I went by, had lunch, then packed up and headed to Grandaddy and Grandma Corell's house. We got there in time for Miss Katherine's afternoon nap and I managed to get a TON of work done on Grandaddy Corell's computer...phew! Katherine helped Grandma fix dinner and Sandi came over for a brainstorming session. She is helping Chris hire qualified electricians since he just doesn't time to fool with it at the moment. Sandi is the expert at hiring, so he is gladly delegating the task! After dinner we booked it home so that Miss Katherine could hit the hay before she erupted like Mt. St. Helen's. Yesterday we had three big firsts! The first is that one of the 8 pesky molars that are bothering her FINALLY popped through the skin yesterday!! Whoo hoo...now if the other 7 would kindly follow suit I'd get my sweet little girl back! :) The second thing is that she FINALLY let Mommy put a barrette in her hair and it stayed there, for the most part, all day long! YAY!!! She would let Grandaddy Corell put it her hair, but no way, no how for me! Finally the poor kid can see without hair in her face! The third and final big deal of the weekend is that she went for her first ride in the Cobra with Daddy! It was a beautiful night and so we switched the car seat out and Miss Katherine rode with the wind in her hair...we didn't go far mind you, but she loved it nonetheless! Pictures will be soon to follow...I have to download them first!
Until next time!
Until next time!
Mommy FINALLY got a barrette in my hair!
SOOOO excited to see My Daddy!

Congrats, Birthdays and West Palm
Well in the past week we have done quite a bit! Miss Katherine and I were all over the place last week getting ready for her visit to Grandma and Grandaddy Corell for the weekend. Chris and I had a trip planned to West Palm Beach for the Dave Matthews Concert. Last Monday Miss Katherine and I worked at the shop...although we didn't last long as she was NOT in a good frame of mind! (I'm thinking her teeth were the main culprit of her crankiness.) SO, luckily my mom was able to come and watch her Tuesday morning for me so that I could run to the shop and get a few things done, like paying bills! (Just a minor thing! Ha!) Well my two hour paying bills trip turned into a 4 hour trip! Thank goodness my mom is patient! :) Christopher had gone out of town for a meeting and had taken my car, so I couldn't take Katherine with me since her car seat doesn't fit right in his Explorer. SO...I ran around like a maniac, and ended up getting stuck at the County building trying to drop off a permit. I love how every time I go to a government building I wait in line FOREVER and when I finally get to the window the person decides it's time for their break?! What's that about?! Anyway, we managed to get home in time for Mom to run off to her meeting. :)
Wednesday, Christopher was out of town again (he had about 15 hours of driving in two days! ) and had my car, so Katherine and I were bums at home on Wednesday. She was quite clingy (again due to teething) so we pretty much just laid around and played on the floor all day long. Chris managed to get home around dinnertime and Katherine was SUPER excited to see him!
Also on Wednesday we found out that Katie and Stuart FINALLY welcomed their little boy Daniel Stuart into the world! I know Katie was VERY glad to finally have him delivered! He's super cute and looks like he's going to be a big strong boy just like his daddy! He weighed 8lbs 7oz and was 21 1/4" long! Way to go Katie and Stuart!!
Thursday we worked again at the shop (I had my car back today! Whoo hoo!). I attempted to time it so that Katherine would be in between naps during our stint at the shop, so I hurried through my work at the shop and then packed her up into the car and rushed her home so that she could take a nap before we headed out to dinner with the Corell Family. Yeah...she had very different ideas. She didn't go to sleep AT ALL in the afternoon. So I was a bit concerned about her crankiness for dinner. Since she wasn't sleeping, I piled her into the car and headed to the Verizon Store. All week my phone had been on the fritz. I have had my phone replaced three times and had just gotten a new phone the week prior, so I think that I was seriously in need of a new phone! This time my phone would get stuck in "car kit" mode and nothing would get it out, so I couldn't talk or hear the person on the other side! So anyway, we spent about an hour at the Verizon Store getting a new phone, which thankfully works! Imagine that?! Katherine was the hit of the store as everyone in there wanted to take a picture of her. She was quite proud of herself to say the least! :) After that we ran home, packed up all of her stuff into the car and headed out to Shell's for dinner. It was my Grandaddy's birthday! He and Frances's birthdays are exactly one week apart, so we celebrated both birthdays at Shell's for dinner (their favorite restaurant). Katherine amazingly behaved herself through dinner and then went home with Grandma Corell for the weekend!
Friday I stayed home in the morning and cleaned up our house (I hate coming home to a messy house when I've been away). It was definitely nice to be able to actually clean without a tornado coming through the room right behind me! Ha! By 10am, Colby and I were out the door and on our way to the kennel. I dropped him off and headed for the shop to pick up Christopher. I managed to get in a few hours of work while he was finishing up some bids and then we were about to head out when we get a phone call that power is out at a customer's house and their generator didn't come on...ruh roh! So, off to Palm Bay we go and were able to help them out before heading out of town. It's now 1:30pm (we planned on leaving around 11:30 or so) and we still haven't eaten lunch! So we stop off and get some lunch and then high tail it to West Palm Beach. We went to the Dave Matthews Concert which started at 7pm. It was fun, but I think we must be getting old or something. By 9:45 we were ready to go to bed! Haha! That and I was REALLY sick of smelling pot and cigarette smoke mixed together. There are some strange birds at a DMB concert! So we left the concert early and passed the heck out back at our hotel.
Saturday was pretty relaxed. We got up and went to breakfast and then came back and lounged around the pool which was PACKED with other DMB fans (there was another concert on Saturday night in West Palm). It was pretty entertaining to watch all of the other people. We didn't need TV or a book to keep us entertained for the day, we could just people watch! We went in around 4:30 or so and got ready for dinner. We ate at the hotel restaurant which was surprisingly nice and good food! Then of course we went back to the room and passed out! (Notice the lack of sleep catching up to us!) haha.
Sunday morning we got up had breakfast and headed home. We got to Mom's house around lunchtime and Katherine grinned at us when we showed up. She wasn't too excited that we were home, but she was definitely grinning at us. It was very cute! We finally managed to get back to our house around 3:30 and unpack everything...I swear Katherine requires more junk than anyone I've ever seen! :) Christopher was working at the shop, so Katherine and I went grocery shopping and got the house back under control again. When Chris finally came home he let Katherine go out in the backyard and play with him...boy was she in hog heaven! I was working on the computer inside, so when I came back out to see what they were up to Miss Katherine was grinning ear to ear and covered in mud! I think we have an outdoors girl on our hands! We tried to bring her inside....it was not a pretty sight. She threw and absolute fit as she didn't want to be inside, she wanted to stay outside! Crazy kiddo! I'm sure the neighbors think we beat her or something because of all the raucous she caused just coming inside! Oh well!
I think that about wraps up the past week. I swear we just seem to get crazier and crazier around here! This week shouldn't be quite as bad, but you never know with us! :)

Baby's Best Friend and Spinning
Well it's been a little while since I have been on here to update everyone! Katherine is quite the little social butterfly now. She doesn't sit still for more than 2 seconds at a time and she is quite proud of herself! We are definitely cutting molars, so she has been super cranky the past few weeks and in the past few days has started waking up in the middle of the night crying because of her teeth. We LOVE Tylenol right now! I've tried to use Baby Orajel on her, but she HATES it. If I get the tube out she runs away shaking her head NO! Crazy kiddo! She definitely understands what you are saying now and will respond to questions when you ask her. Usually her answer if no, but if you ask her if she wants blueberries, you get an emphatic YES! This kid LOVES fruit! Guess that's the one and maybe only thing she has inherited from me! ;o)
We didn't do much for the 4th of July as Katherine turned into a pumpkin around 7:30pm on the night of the fourth. We were at my parents house hoping to watch the fireworks from there, but Katherine had other ideas. So at 7:30pm we hightailed it home so that she could go to bed before her fussing reached unbearable decibels. She was out like a light by 9pm and slept completely through all of the loud fireworks going off at the baseball stadium and in our neighborhood...guess she needed the sleep! :)
Saturday we didn't do much of anything. We did manage to get out of the house just before supper time to go grocery shopping, but other than that we were all bums on Saturday. It was rather nice since our normal speed is 1000 mph at all times!
Yesterday we went to church and amazingly, Katherine did not SCREAM when we left her in the nursery with Miss Marilyn! We snuck out of the nursery and Katherine just looked up at us and waved goodbye! YAY!!! We normally have a battle on our hands to leave her there. We we returned from Early Church and Sunday School to pick her up, she was sitting on a new toy called the "Sit and Spin" and just spinning herself in circles like a crazy lady! She LOVED it! Normally we walk in and she runs to us like we're long lost parents who haven't seen her in 10 years...not today! She didn't want to leave! Finally Christopher dragged her off of the Sit and Spin and we headed out the door with a fussing little one who didn't want to leave! Note to self...we need a Sit and Spin. We came home and attempted to put Katherine down for a nap...she had other ideas on that front as well! NO nap for Katherine! I got her up after listening to her play in her crib for over an hour and we had lunch. Then we went and picked up Christopher at the shop since he was doing some catch up work. I thought, well maybe if we drive around for a while, she'll go to sleep since she was rubbing her eyes. So the three of us drove around looking at various neighborhoods and a few jobs that Chris is working on at the present time. NO SLEEP. So it's now about 3 pm and Katherine hasn't had a nap at all today. This is NOT good. We head home to hopefully get her to sleep in her crib before dinnertime. Well just as we get to the neighborhood, off to sleep she goes...bummer. We get home and put her in her crib...listened to her crying/playing in her crib for about 45 minutes and then she all of a sudden starts crying again. Christopher looks at me and says "I think she might have her arm or leg stuck in between the slats in the crib." My response "Oh, no, she's fine, she's just mad at us. I've never seen her get anything stuck between the crib slats before." Christopher "OK, if you say so." She continues to cry for about 10 minutes, so I think, OK, there's no way she's going to sleep I'll just go get her up. I walk into her room...what do I find?! Her leg was stuck in between the slats on the crib?! HOW DID HE KNOW!?? So I now feel like the worst mother on the face of the planet AND I have to go tell Christopher that he was right and I was wrong...YUCK! :( So we get Katherine all cleaned up from crying (she wasn't hurt at all, just scared) and we eat some dinner. Then we head to Target...we need a Sit and Spin pronto! We find one and it's on clearance! Whoo hoo!! (Accountants and Engineers LOVE bargain shopping!) We get it home and she played with it for about 30 minutes straight! This kid doesn't do anything for longer than 2 seconds, so this toy might just go down in the Hughes Hall of Fame as the greatest invention ever!
That about sums up our weekend. Here are some pictures of Katherine and her best buddy (Colby) and her new toy...the Sit and Spin. Enjoy!

15 Month Checkup
Well Miss Katherine had her 15 month check up this morning...yes I am very aware that she is now 16 months old, but her doctor was booked up until today, so we took the first available appointment! So, we went to the doctor this morning around 9:20 as her appt time was 9:30. There was a little boy in the waiting room who is 8 months old and I swear he was twice the size of Katherine...who is twice his age! Yikes! She was fascinated by him and they had a staring contest while we waited. Our pediatrician always has hospital rounds first thing in the morning, so she is usually running a little behind, which of course was the case today! So after Katherine got weighed and measured, we had a naked kiddo running around the office for about 30 minutes. The nurses were all highly entertained especially since every time the nurses said the word "dance" Katherine was just start dancing. I think she entertained the entire office!
Finally the doctor showed up and said that Miss Katherine is still long and lean...she weighed in at 20lbs on the nose and 30" long. That puts her in the 5th percentile for weight and 25th percentile for height. The doctor said that she looks perfectly healthy so no worries on that end! The doctor then asked her to give her five which Katherine immediately shook her head no to...we have a super independent kiddo. Luckily the doctor was totally amused and not offended. :) She had to get one shot...yucky! But other than that we were good to go! We did find out that she is cutting her molars right now, which is a bit odd considering she still has some front teeth that haven't shown up yet, but I guess that explains the crankiness. She's got four coming in all at once! Yikes! We were also told to start having "play" potty time so that she can get used to sitting on the potty and that it's fun...oh goody. Now I have to figure out what kind of potty to get! Hopefully we have a kiddo that likes being independent and catches on really quickly. ;o) We finally left the doctor's office at 11:10am...yes that's right almost 2 hours after we got there! Luckily Katherine was very well behaved and Mommy came prepared with LOTS of snacks and toys! ;)
Tomorrow we're headed to Grandma and Grandaddy Corell's house for a pool party since Christopher is going to be at a wedding! Should be fun and hopefully I have some great pictures for next week! Until then, have a great weekend!

5 year Anniversary!
Hard to believe but today is our 5 year wedding anniversary! Didn't we just graduate from high school like 2 years ago?! Yikes! Nothing too exciting planned for this weekend other than resting! It has been a crazy week and next week looks to be just as insane! So, our plans for the weekend are 1) stay cool (it's super hot out now!) and 2) REST! :) Chris and I are going on a weekend getaway in July, so that's our anniversary present to each other. :) Chris gets to see the Dave Matthews Band concert and I get to go to the beach and have a weekend of no Mommy duties! I don't think either of us will know how to act when we actually get to sleep past 7am!
Not much new around here this week. Katherine has taught herself how to climb up onto our bed now and has fallen off three times so far this week. She has the concept of height going up, but the going down thing is completely foreign to her. Oh well!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Father's Day
This past weekend was quite eventful for Miss Katherine. Saturday we went shopping at Beall's (a local department store) that was having MAJOR sales! We bought Katherine 10 outfits for her to "grow into" and all were under $5 for Carter's outfits! What a deal! We LOVE to bargain shop (although I must admit that my parents are the ultimate bargain shoppers and we will never live up to their shopping craziness because neither Chris nor I like to shop!) We're an engineer and an accountant...we're pretty boring! ha! Anyway, so after an eventful day of shopping on Saturday we headed home and put Miss Katherine to bed extra early since she was WORN out from shopping (and she missed her afternoon nap...a BIG no no for Katherine).
Sunday we were up and out of the house by 7:30am to head to church. Katherine and I got up extra early and fixed Daddy a big breakfast since it was Father's Day. :) At church of course Katherine screamed when we left her in the nursery as usual...you'd think we'd be getting over this stage by now, but apparently not! She has only been going to the nursery now almost every Sunday since the first week in September?! OH well. When we got back from Church to pick her up, she had decimated the nursery...she was the only kid in there, so there wasn't anyone else to blame! Toys were everywhere! I told Miss Marilyn (the nursery lady) that this is what our house looks like a daily basis...she just laughed.
We headed from church to Grandma and Grandaddy Corell's house and managed to get there in time for Katherine to take her morning nap (thank goodness!). I helped Mom fix lunch and the guys went out to run some errands. JoeJoe and GiGi (my grandparents) arrived around noon and we all had lunch. It was delicious!! After lunch we took Katherine for her very first swim in the swimming pool! At first she wasn't too thrilled, but by the end of the day she was a kicking queen in her little floatation thingy. She kicked herself all over the pool. She was really thrilled with the whole water experience once she figured out that she could splash us! She would get a little gleam in her eyes and just go to town splashing. It was quite cute. We managed to get her down for an afternoon nap while the rest of us enjoyed some desert and then it was time to head back North to the house. Katherine slept until 8:30 the next morning! Swimming wore her out!
Here are some pictures from our weekend. Hope you enjoy!

Trip to Virginia
Well we survived the trip to Virginia! We left last Thursday and headed North to Richmond. We flew from Orlando to Atlanta and then from Atlanta to Richmond...it was a very long day, but we made it! Katherine was quite a trooper as the only nap she took on Thursday was for about 15 minutes on the descent into Richmond. CiCi picked us up at the airport and we headed to Midlothian. Katherine was very excited to see her CiCi, Grandada (as Christopher has named him) and Uncle Cory. She wasn't too excited about the cats Cinder and Piwackit, but she eventually warmed up to them as well. Thursday night she managed to fall all the way down the stairs at the Hughes' house, but other than being scared and having a bump on the head came away unscathed. She thankfully avoided the steps after her incident! :) The first person she wanted after getting over the initial shock was her Uncle Cory...how cute! :)
Friday was rather quiet as we just made last minute preparations for our trip to the Rivah on Saturday for Gran and Grandad's 65th Anniversary Party. I think Miss Katherine was glad to have a rest and catch up on some sleep that she missed on Thursday.
Saturday we were all up early getting ready for our trip to Mathews. CiCi left bright and early with Debbie to go decorate the American Legion Hall. The rest of us stayed behind and packed up. Cory, Mr. Hughes, Christopher, Katherine, Bailey and I all piled into the Explorer and Accord and headed out around lunchtime. We had the jet skis as well, so we were quite a bunch pulling out of Salisbury! We got to the Rivah in time to change and head out to the party. Katherine was quite the belle of the ball. She danced her little feet right off! Considering she didn't take an afternoon nap, she did incredibly well. The party was a lot of fun and it was great to see and meet all of Gran and Grandad's friends as well as catch up with all of the family. Jay gave a great toast to the lucky couple and we had a blast watching them dance. Congratulations Gran and Grandad!
Sunday we spent the day playing on the River. Chris and Cory put the jet skis in and we all took rides on them. When Katherine woke up from her nap, we got her slathered up in sunscreen and donned the bathing suit, sunhat and sunglasses and headed for the beach. She wasn't too sure about the water at first, but quickly learned that she could splash in it...then she loved it! :) We weren't out too long as she started getting tired, so we headed in for a bath since she was covered head to toe in sand! She took a very long afternoon nap (I guess the sun wore her out!) and then we headed back to Richmond.
Monday we flew home by way of Atlanta again. Katherine didn't take any naps again until we were on the plane from Atlanta to Orlando. She was quite fussy before we took off as we sat on the plane for an hour or so before taking off due to refueling problems. The A/C wasn't on while we waited so it got REALLY hot in the plane. She let out one ear piercing scream that brought the entire plane to a halt and then turned over and fell fast asleep on Christopher...thank goodness! Other than that she was a real trooper!
My parents picked us up at the airport and we couldn't wait to get home and go to bed! My parents felt sorry for us since I was sick right before we left and hadn't had a chance to clean up really, so we walked into a squeaky clean house when we got home. We were all shocked! It was wonderful though! Thanks Mom and Dad! :) Katherine immediately ran around like a crazy person with just a diaper on and had this HUGE grin on her face. It was like she was thinking "I know where I am , I know where I am!!!!" She slept for over 12 hours that night! :)
We are finally settled back into our routine and I think that Katherine is slowly catching up on her sleep. I know Chris and I are still worn out! Ha! We were so glad to see everyone, but traveling with a toddler will wear you slam out! :) Well I'm off to run some errands. Here are some pictures from our weekend!
