Well the past week has been NUTS! :) In a good way of course. :) Last week we were super busy as I had to get the Books and records for our church reviewed on Thursday, we had to go to Target and the grocery store to stock up on supplies and CiCi and PaPa were coming to visit on Friday. So the girls had a week full of activity! Monday and Tuesday I spent the day doing laundry and catching up on work from the shop. Not the easiest things to do when you have a toddler on the loose and an infant to look after, but we managed pretty well! Thank goodness my parents were here, because Christopher was out of town on Monday/Monday night and then ended up having to work pretty late at Sam's Club on Tuesday night to fix some electrical problems they were having. I am not sure how single mom's ever get both kids bathed and in the bed by themselves!
On Tuesday I found out that I had to take the Minutes Books and Records up to a church near Pineda so that they could be reviewed by the Central Florida Presbytery. This is an annual thing that happens to make sure the church is following the Book of Order (rules). The Presbytery didn't have my e mail address correct, so I hadn't received the e mails the three weeks prior detailing when we needed to be there and all that good stuff. The only other person to receive the e mail was our Pastor who happened to be on vacation for the past three weeks! So Tuesday morning when he went through his 300+ e mails he found the one telling us that we had to be there on THURSDAY! Yikes! Good thing I had gotten the books organized back in June prior to Caroline's arrival! :)
So Wednesday, all three girls piled into the car and headed to church to pick up the Minute Books and to drop off Katherine's "blue form" (immunization record) at preschool. We did both and then came home for lunch. It takes ALL morning to get both girls dressed and fed, mom showered and dressed and all three of us to get in the car and go anywhere. This is sort of nice because after lunch it's the downhill slide to nap time...my FAVORITE time of day! :) hehe. Of course it didn't help that the night before I had been up every hour with one or both of the girls. Ugh!
Thursday we were up super early and I had been up every hour AGAIN with one or both of the girls all night long. So I was tired and grumpy from the start. But, after a shower I was ready for the day. I got both girls up, fed and dressed, got myself fed, showered and dressed and we were out the door at 9:50am...a record for us! :) We dropped off some thank you notes at the post office and then headed to my mom's office. She was going to take Katherine to lunch while Caroline and I went to get the Minute Books reviewed. We got to Mom's office, signed some forms she needed, got Caroline's car seat switched over to Mom's car and off we headed in different directions. Caroline was wonderful the entire time we were at the church getting reviewed and didn't make a single peep! Yay! We finished around 11:50am and dashed over to the Sea Park house (our beachside house that was turned into a Marijuana grow house by a former tenant...see previous posts!) to switch back to my car and take both girls home! Mom was scheduled to show the house at noon to prospective buyers/renters. We made it just as Mom and Katherine arrived, so after a quick switcheroo of Caroline's seat the three girls were headed home...and Mom was worn slam out! :)
Friday was a nutso day from the beginning. My mom was off for the day as it was my parents anniversary! :) Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad! So Katherine did not understand why she couldn't play with Grandma all day...Grandma had a long list of things to get done for Grandaddy across the street at their house. I finally managed to get Katherine settled down and then Katherine, Caroline and I made our first venture to Target and the grocery store. I was not too worried about Target since they have these monstrous carts that Katherine can sit in and the baby carrier will fit in as well. However, I was slightly worried about Publix because the carts that Katherine likes (the race cars) do not have a place for the baby's car seat, so I knew I would have to put Caroline in the baby carrier thing that I wear...wasn't sure how this would work. Well we got to Target and as we pulled into the parking lot Caroline woke up in a screaming fit! Not like her at all. I finally got her calmed down, but there was no going back into the car seat then. So, I broke out the baby carrier thing at Target! We had a pretty successful trip there with the exception of a Katherine meltdown as we were going through the check out line. It was a doozy with screaming, shoes coming off, tears and fist pumping. She refused to sit down in the car, so I picked her up put her on my hip (which she HATED...so I was not carrying her like a sack of potatoes), still had Caroline attached to me in the baby carrier and pushed the monstrosity of a cart out the parking lot. I'm sure I looked ridiculous. But we survived! Then onto Publix. This trip went much easier than I anticipated. Luckily Katherine had learned from Target that if she didn't behave she would be carried out like a sack of potatoes, so she behaved quite well. Caroline put up a little fuss getting back into the baby carrier, but nothing major. All in all, it went very well!!! I was completely dead, but we survived!!! :)
Friday night CiCi and PaPa arrived just in time for dinner. We had a great dinner with them and Katherine was THRILLED to have CiCi and PaPa down here for a visit. They were worn out from a LONG drive from Virginia, so we all turned in pretty early. Caroline managed to sleep for 5 hours that night, so I actually felt somewhat rested on Saturday morning! :)
Saturday we spent the day at the house swimming and just visiting with CiCi and PaPa. It was really nice. Katherine was definitely spoiled rotten by her grandparents this weekend. :)
Sunday we went to visit CiCi and PaPa at their hotel on the beach. It's sad to say that Chris and I rarely if ever go to the beach...and we live less than 2 miles from it! It was nice to look out from the balcony of their room at the ocean and the pelicans. Definitely a peaceful scene! The girls and I came back to the house for nap time, while CiCi, PaPa and Christopher went on a walk on the beach. We then had a dinner at home (thanks to my mom the chef!) and were able to spend the evening together before CiCi and PaPa had to head back to their hotel for an early wake up call the next morning. :( Katherine was not pleased with CiCi and PaPa leaving at all!
Yesterday we ran errands in the morning (to the church to drop off the books and to the shop). Then we came home and I was very much anticipating the wonderful nap time hours! So we had lunch and I quickly scooted both girls up the stairs for nap time. I was SO tired, I was just counting the minutes until I could go to sleep! Yeah...the girls had other ideas. I spent from 1:15 until 2:15 attempting to get Katherine down for a nap...she finally conked out at 2:15. As soon as I shut her door, Caroline woke up...ugh. Caroline usually sleeps most of the day...well not today! She decided that 2:15 was PLAYTIME! So from 2:15 until 3:40 I was up with her...she finally conked out at 3:40 and I gladly collapsed on my bed for a much needed nap! I figured I had at least 30 minutes and probably close to an hour and a half before Katherine would wake up...NOT! 3:58pm..."Mommy, I'm awake, I'm awake!" So after an 18 minute sort of nap, we were back up and in action again!
Caroline has also thrown me a curve ball the past two days as she has changed her sleep schedule from 9:30pm-2am and then 2:30am-5am and then 5:30am-9am to 9:30am-3am, then 3:30am-6am and then 6:30am-9:30am. You would think this is a good thing...but NO. Because now when I feed her at 6am, it wakes up Katherine...which is about 1 1/2 hours earlier than her normal wake up time. So now I'm up earlier and Katherine is up earlier too...which means tired Mommy and grumpy Katherine. :( Gotta see about changing Caroline's sleeping schedule! :)
Well I guess that's the update on us for now. I will post pictures sometime this week...they are all on Christopher's camera which he has with him. :)

Caroline is 1 week old!
Well we survived one whole week and two days with two kiddos in the house! :) Phew! So far I have come to the conclusion that the second baby is much easier to deal with...I'm not sure if it's because I sort of know what I'm doing this time or if I just don't freak out as much at every little thing. The jury is still out on that decision, but overall the hardest part is no sleep. Caroline still has her nights and days mixed up, so it's a party in Caroline's room with mom ALL night long. We did have one good night of sleep, but other than that it's pretty much been 3-4 hours of sleep total a night for Mom. Katherine is still an early riser and is up and raring to go around 6:30am everyday, which makes for a LONG day for Mommy! :) Luckily Katherine has been taking really good naps around 2 in the afternoon, so from 6:30am until 2pm it's countdown to nap time for Mommy. hehe. I am usually able to get Katherine down for a nap, feed Caroline, get her down for a nap and then I can take one for about an hour. Man do naps feel great when you wake up! :)
Caroline is growing like a weed and eating like a champ. We go for her one week checkup this afternoon, so I guess we will find out if she's gaining weight or not. I have a feeling she's close to her birth weight already. She's definitely a lot skinnier than Katherine was a birth, so she looks kind of funny in all of Katherine's infant outfits. I guess that's what happens when you weigh 1/2 a pound less and are a full inch taller at birth!
Katherine is a HUGE help with her baby sister. She helps me give her a bath everyday and also helps bring diapers to me when it's diaper changing time. She is SO sweet. She gives Caroline at least 20 kisses a day and whenever Caroline is crying (usually at bath time) she immediately runs over and says "here, take my hand baby sister." SO sweet. :) I'm not sure if I have mentioned this in previous posts, but Katherine is OBSESSED with lemons. The kid will eat a lemon, rind and all, and not even make a face! I do not understand this phenomenon, but at least it's not candy! Ha! Today I was feeding Caroline and all of a sudden I heard "Help Mommy." Not in a panicked way, just in a I need help way. So I went into the living room to find her sitting on top of Colby's cage. She was apparently trying to give him a treat. I do not even want to know how she climbed up there!
I am doing pretty good, other than being tired. I was super excited to get back into my "real" jeans yesterday. I was sick of maternity jeans! I feel like a real person now that I'm back in my pre-pregnancy clothes! I still have a little belly left to get rid of, but not too bad. :)
Well it's bath time for Caroline and Mommy, so I'll try to write more later. For now here are a few new pictures of my two girls! Enjoy!

Baby Caroline Arrives!!
Caroline Corell Hughes finally graced us with her presence on Wednesday July 8, 2009 at 1:32pm. She came into the world like a little firecracker as she came before the doctor could get to the hospital and without any pushing from mom. The entire nursing staff ran into our room to witness a "doctorless" birth. It was quite entertaining for Chris and I. Once nurse ran over to "catch" the baby while two others ran for the "birth cart" (medical tools and such) and another turned the baby warmer on. Nothing like making a grand entrance! :) After the baby was in the warming tray one of the nurses apparently looked around and said "ok, now we should start acting professional." I think it all happened so quickly everyone was in complete shock...including us! :)
We went to the hospital around 6:30am on Wednesday morning to be induced. They started the medicine at 8am and by 10:30am I was only dialated another 1/2 cm. The contractions were getting painful, so I got the epidural and went to sleep. Chris went to grab some lunch since the nurses were predicting a 4pm delivery time for me. He left and came back around 12:30. I had been snoozing wonderfully this whole time and when he came back I kinda woke up and we chatted for a few minutes. At 12:45pm I said, you know I'm starting to feel a little pressure down below, maybe we should tell the nurses. So he went out and told one of the nurses. She came in around 1:00pm or so and checked me and said "oh, you're about 8cm." She made me flip over to my other side as apparently you aren't supposed to sleep on one side for very long with an epidural. So I did. She left and about 10 mintues later I said, you know I'm starting to feel more pressure, maybe we should get the nurse again. So Chris, being the wonderful hubby went out and again told the nurses. They of course kind of ignored him because they had just checked me 10 mintues earlier. So, they came sauntering in around 1:15pm and checked me. The nurse looked at me and said "WHOA...don't push, her head is crowning." I of course responded...I'm not pushing, I'm not doing a darn thing. :) So the nurse left running around calling the doctor, and doing all sorts of things and left a nursing student in the room with me to make sure I was ok. 1:25 they are all still running around trying to get everything ready and the nursing student's eyes get huge and she says, "uh...I think I'd better go get a nurse." So she runs to the door and calls for someone. Well about 8 nurses come running in and they quickly put on gloves to catch the baby. Caroline was born kicking and screaming 7 minutes later. She weighed 6 lbs. 15 oz. and is 20 1/2 inchecs long. So she is about 8 oz. less than Katherine was at birth, but a full inch longer. She has definitely got some LONG fingers and toes. Mom says she has pianists hands with those long fingers. I guess we shall see! :)
We later asked the nurse how many times the nurses have had to deliver by themselves without a doctor and she told us that she averages 175 births a year with a doctor and has been doing this for 6 years. In those 6 years this was her 4th "nurse only" birth. Guess it doesn't happen that often!
My poor doctor (whom we LOVE) came screeching into the room about 2:45 and jokingly said he would have stop by the ER on his way out to check on the two pedestrians he ran over while trying to get to the hospital in time. hahahaha. Poor guy. He changed my induction date so that he could deliver her since he was scheduled to have surgery on his neck on Friday (my original induction date). And he still missed the birth! He said Chris and I needed to have another little one so that he could actually be there because our "births are just too much fun." I guess that's a good thing!
The good news is that since I didn't have to push my recovery has been super fast. The only real pain I have had is at the site where they gave me the epidural and that's just like sore/bruised muscles. Other than that and some cramping from my stomach going back to normal size it's been fairly easy. I was ready to go home about 5 hours after delivery, but of course you aren't allowed to leave until at least 36 hours later. Boo hiss. :)
We came home yesterday morning around 11:30am and have been enjoying Katherine with her little sister. Katherine is SO caring and tries to get Caroline to "hold her hand" when she is crying. So cute. Now...if I can just keep Katherine out of Caroline's crib we'll be all set! ;)
I did get one bit of news that I liked...Caroline has my blood type! Whoo hoo...finally SOMETHING of mine in one of my kiddos. ;) Yes...Caroline looks just like her big sister and daddy...and she even has lighter hair than Katherine had, so I think I'm outta luck for her looking like me yet again. :) Oh well, she's darn cute if I do say so myself. :) I'm not biased at all. :)

Big Sister Katherine comes for a visit!

Wide awake!!

Change in plans!
So our induction has been moved up to TOMORROW morning at 6:30am...WHOA. Guess Baby Hughes will be born on 7/8/09. :) I'll post updates as soon as possible!
We have a go date!
I just got home from my LAST doctor's checkup this pregnancy!! YAY!!! We were officially cleared for induction on Thursday night/Friday morning. So Baby Hughes #2 should arrive sometime on Friday. :) :) This is good for two reasons, 1) I'm SOOO ready to be done! and 2) Friday is my Grandaddy Corell's birthday! How neat is that?! So unless this one decides to come on her own time frame, looks like we'll have a birthday on 7/10/09!
Now for the bad news...my doctor that I normally see and who delivered Katherine will not be delivering baby number 2 unless she comes tonight or tomorrow. :( Major bummer. He is having surgery on a herniated disk in his neck on Friday. :( SO...I have to go meet the new doctor either tomorrow or Thursday morning before heading to the hospital. Not too thrilled about that, but it is what it is! My poor OB has had a rough few weeks as his father passed away last week and he was told if he didn't have the surgery ASAP he would have permanent damage to his neck. Not a fun position to be in. I thought he was going to cry when he told me he wouldn't be able to deliver baby #2. Poor guy!
In other news, Katherine is slowly learning to go potty on the big girl potty...but it's definitely not consistent, so we're taking it slow and at her pace. ;) The smile on her face when she goes on the potty is priceless! She's such a cutie!
I am finally over my cold...thank goodness! But now my dad and Christopher have it...and Katherine seems to be coming down with a runny nose today. So hopefully those three will get over it before Friday and I hope Mom doesn't get it at all! It could be an interesting week if not!
Our A/C downstairs died last Thursday and we STILL don't have a new unit installed. We are hoping that today or tomorrow, but as time wears on today, it's looking pretty unlikely that it will be either of those two. Ugh! My poor parents are having to sleep in 82 degree heat! It could be worse, but it's bad enough for sure! At least it hasn't been 100 degrees this week. :)
I think that about sums up what's going on in the Hughes household. Looks like Thursday and Friday are going to be slammed with action...new A/C, scheduled induction and Grandaddy Corell's bday! Guess when it rains it pours! :)
I'll be sure to post with baby news as soon as possible!

38 weeks!
So we made it to 38 weeks!! (Well almost, officially it isn't until tomorrow.) Hard to believe since 5 weeks ago I was in the hospital with pre-term contractions. I had my weekly check up this morning and baby #2 is measuring 39 weeks...so because of Katherine's head size (she had/has a big head) when she was born, he wants to induce me next week...if my body is starting to progress. He said that I was making headway, but not progressing quite enough yet for inducement as of today. SO...IF he can get a spot at the hospital and IF my body is cooperating at my checkup next Tuesday, then we'll be induced next Thursday/Friday. Meaning that baby #2 will most likely be born on Friday the 10th...which is also my Grandaddy Corell's birthday! How cool is that?! I know, there are lots of IFs in there, but still neat to think about. :)
Katherine tells me everyday that "baby sister coming." I keep saying, I sure hope so! And Soon!! :) She might just get her wish next week! :) She is helping me today watch Rocky and Satch for Grandma and Grandaddy. They have a bunch of contractors next door and no A/C on because the doors are open, so the doggies have come for a visit. Katherine LOVES to play with them. Now if only I could get her to understand she has to be gentle with them...they are no where near as big and rough and tumble as Colby! Let's hope we don't have the same problem with baby sister!
Nothing much new around here other than I came down with a cold yesterday. ugh. I sure hope I kick this cold before next Thursday! That would be horrible to be in labor with a cold! Oh well!
Well I'm off to fix lunch and entertain the munchkin. :)
