What a difference a year makes!

Katherine's First Day of School - August 2009

Katherine's Last Day of School May 2010
My first baby girl is growing up so fast!!!

Last Day of School

So I am apparently very tardy in posting pictures...I didn't realize I hadn't posted new pictures until I looked at everything still on my camera....yeah it's been almost a month! Yikes! I will be sure to upload a bunch this time!

Katherine has her last day of school today. She was very sad to leave all of her friends, but she is VERY excited to go to the "big kid" classes next year. By big kid, we mean 3 year olds! HA! Funny how one year older seems SO much bigger when you are her age! She was quite sad to leave her teachers, but I know that she will have fun this summer as we have the following scheduled: swimming lessons (starting Monday), Vacation Bible School (she is super stoked about the water slide), a trip to VA, and then the all important...DANCE LESSONS! As soon as the dance lessons are finished, it is one week until school starts again, so I think we will be keeping plenty busy this summer! She is totally excited about the dance lessons and begs daily to go and get her leotard, skirt and ballet slippers...So sweet!

This morning we took Caroline to swimming lessons and then rushed around in order to get back to Katherine's school for her year end party. Katherine had helped me make cupcakes yesterday for her party. She picked out the colors for the icing and helped with the sprinkles. She was VERY proud of herself. When we got there Katherine was more interested in eating than talking to Caroline and I. She had AT LEAST three pieces of pizza, a TON of chips, a cupcake, a popsicle, juice boxes, etc. She had finished eating and all the kids were playing and getting ready to go home with their parents. I was snapping pictures of her classmates so that we could remember them all and I all of a sudden couldn't find Katherine! I looked around...she's not anywhere. Then Grant's dad says "Uh...I think I found her." Katherine was under the table HIDING and eating the cupcake that Ryan had left behind (luckily he was done with it and never really touched it.). But seriously?! After eating everything she had, how could she possibly still be hungry for another cupcake?! I luckily had my camera around my neck, so I was able to catch the mischief in action. I can't decide if she looks surprised that I caught her, or just really proud of how ingenious she is...either way, I think we have a sneaky one on our hands! Silly girl!!!

Not much else new around here. Chris is keeping busy with the shop and I now have my hands full with both girls home for the summer! We are so very blessed!!!

Enjoy the pictures! They are posted in reverse order because I forgot to download them the opposite way. So enjoy going back in time as you scroll down! ;)

Houston we have a swimmer!

Well today marked two big days for Katherine and Caroline...1) It's Katherine's last Monday of school for her first year of school and 2) it was Caroline's first day of swimming lessons!!! I am quite sad that this is Katherine's last week of school until August as she LOVES going to school and playing with her friends. She has already told me twice in the past few days that she is going to be really sad to miss her friends at school. :( I am hoping we can organize a few play dates this summer, but I am not sure how many as I know her little friends have busy schedules too! I cannot believe that my little Katherine has just completed her first year of preschool! AAGGHH!! She's growing up so fast!

As for Miss Caroline and her swimming lessons...she's a PRO! We got to the pool and the instructor asked if I would be ok when Caroline started crying. I of course am not really sympathetic to crying as Katherine has been a screamer since day 1...I think that she wore out my sensitivity to crying by month 2... So, I replied to Mrs. Carmen that I would be fine and to go ahead with the lesson as planned. There were two other parents there waiting for their lessons to start and they both said, "Oh, just give her 5 minutes, she'll (Caroline) be screaming her little head off." So I went about laying the towels out and Caroline got started...yeah, no screaming, no tears, not even a small sniffle! She was ALLLLLLL smiles. I'm talking light up the sky smiles and she was slightly showing off. Her first attempt at floating...she did perfect! Arms straight out by her side, head back in the water, feet straight out...A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. The instructor was dumbfounded. She said "In all of my years doing this, I have NEVER had an infant this calm and this good!" So Day 1 - skill 1 mastered. Tomorrow onto holding her breath and going under water...this is usually a week 2 skill...NOT for Caroline! It's a Day 2 skill! :) Now...Mrs. Carmen fully expects Katherine to be the same way when she starts her lessons next week....HA! Katherine throws a fit when I put water over her head in the bath tub to wash her hair! Forget laying down flat in a pool! I have a feeling that screaming and meltdowns will be par for the course for her first few days. I might be surprised, but I am preparing for the worst!

So we may just have Caroline the swimmer and Katherine the dancer on our hands. ;)

I just signed Katherine up for her very first dance lessons! Excited is not even the word for it. She is about to jump off the moon she is so excited about her lessons. They aren't until July...but she's already talking about it! She wants to go buy her leotard, ballet slippers and tap shoes...NOW! I am holding off until June as she seems to be growing right now...it would be just my luck to buy them now and they be too little by July. :)

I think that about sums up our little ones for now. I have a feeling we will be getting into some fun adventures this summer, so I will be sure to keep you updated with pictures and stories!! I hope to get some pictures of Caroline swimming tomorrow, but I'm not sure if I will be able to or not. We will see!

9 1/2 month photos

Here are pictures of Katherine and Caroline at 9 1/2 months old. I'd say they are definitely sisters!!! :)

Katherine 9 1/2 months

Caroline 9 1/2 months

Just normal stuff!

Not much new around the Hughes household. Chris has been keeping very busy at the shop. This is the time of year when everyone starts freaking out about the upcoming hurricane season and demanding generators and putting out bids. It's great for business, but at times it feels like we will never come up for air because we are so busy! He is doing exceptionally well and even managed to take a whole day off yesterday to play with me and the girls! We are so very blessed!!

Katherine is still in school, her last day for this year is May 21st. I know she will be sad not to see her little friends on a weekly basis, but I have a feeling she will have fun this summer as well. So far we have her signed up for swimming lessons starting May 24th, a family reunion trip to VA in June and dance lessons twice a week for July. I'm thinking she'll be just fine. ;) School starts back here in early to mid August. She seems like she has grown a foot in just the past month or so. She is getting big so quickly! She currently LOVES playing dress up and dancing. If she can combine the two activities then she is in hog heaven! Her favorite time of day right now is when Daddy gets home (whom she now calls Prince Charming). She immediately RUNS to the door, hugs him and says "Prince Charming can you dance with me?" To her this just means Chris swinging her around in the air, but she calls in dancing, so whatever! :)

Caroline is also growing like a weed and has thankfully slept 11 hours straight three nights in a row! Now I probably just jinxed myself, but hey, what can you say? I'm so excited I might just do a little jig! She slept like an ANGEL from 4 months old to 6 1/2 months old and then she got sick...and hasn't slept through the night since! Finally on Friday night she conked out for 11 hours straight and has done it Saturday and Sunday! Yippee!!! She still only has her bottom teeth. I know her top teeth are bothering her as she is constantly drooling and knawing on things, but I can't feel them yet, so I think they are still a ways off. :( Poor thing! She is also LOVING eating solid foods. We started feeding her very soft/mashed up table foods about three weeks ago and she gets so excited to eat now. It is hilarious! She makes a complete mess mind you, but she enjoys every second of it. ;) She also babbles constantly and her favorite time of day is bath time. She especially likes to eat the bubbles in the bathtub...Mom is not such a fan.

I think that's about all that's up with us!! Here is a picture of Caroline and I this weekend...I'm still wondering how my children came from me?! Boy does she look like Daddy! :)
