Major Breakthrough and the Zoo

Well this week we had two major happenings in the Hughes family...the first is Katherine FINALLY let me put her hair up in pigtails. Until this week I have not even been allowed to brush her hair, much less put something in it. Occasionally she would let me put a barrette in, but it would only last a few minutes before she ripped it out. We have had a few battles over leaving the rubber bands in her hair, but I think we are getting the hang of it! I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway. I was getting sick of her constantly looking like she had just rolled out of bed with the worst case of bedhead ever!

Second, we went to the zoo...twice this week! The first time was with Lab School on Monday. It was an educational trip, so we were able to go into a classroom and touch a bunch of different animals...including a snake. I HATE snakes. Katherine LOVES them now. Ugh. I did manage to touch the Ball Python, but I swear that is the last time I ever want to be that close to any kind of snake! The just give my the willies! We also fed the giraffes. We went back today with some friends visiting from New Jersey and we able to stop off at the petting zoo and play with the animals in there. Katherine was quite fearless with them. She would just walk right up to them and pet them. It was very sweet. She also really liked the monkeys and jaguars. The jaguars were playing when we went by them and she just thought that was the funniest thing she had ever seen. It was very cute. We are worn out from being in the sun, but she is fighting off a nap this afternoon. I'm hoping she will eventually give up, cause Mommy is TIRED! :)

Here are some pictures! Enjoy!

Day 1:My very first ponytail!! A little messy, but I have my hair up!

Day 2: "Mommy, do I have to wear these?"

Day 3: I think I finally got the hang of this hair thing!

Look at the giraffes!

I'm not so sure about this guy.

This is the one we fed.

Bella I'll touch him if you will...

I like this guy...he's my size!

Drink you're water silly!

That was funny!!

I like the little guys. :)

Easter Weekend/CiCi and PaPa come to visit

Well it's been a whirlwind few weeks for the Hughes clan. We moved into our new house on Sunday the 29th of March and have been on the go 24/7 since then! We still aren't completely settled as a few things in the house are waiting on repairs, but the house is livable. For the most part things are organized and put away, but no pictures are hung and we are waiting on the maintenance man to come back to paint the wall in the family room so that we can finally put our TV in the entertainment center and back the whole thing up against the wall! Minor details, minor details! So, not many pictures of the house have been taken as of yet since we are still in limbo. Katherine's big girl room won't be completed for a while as that room has become a holding room until my parents are able to move into their new home across the street. So, pictures for her room will arrive sometime around June or early July. :) The best thing about moving is 1) finding stuff that I have not seen since North Carolina (January 2005!) and 2) GETING RID OF JUNK! I absolutely LOVE getting rid of stuff and organizing what's left. I don't know why and Chris thinks I'm nuts, but I just get SO excited about all of that! I swear our attic pile of boxes has been reduced by at least half and a lot of that will be gone once Chris goes through it! LOVE IT!

Anyway, now for Easter! We were blessed with a visit from CiCi and PaPa from Virginia! It was a crazily short visit, but a visit nonetheless! We thoroughly enjoyed having them and especially since we were able to celebrate both Easter and CiCi's birthday! Katherine decided that she is going to call Grandpa Hughes "PaPa" over the weekend and is now incredibly attached to her PaPa. In fact she has been looking for him every time she comes into the kitchen since they left. She definitely has a thing for daddy's and grandpa's. I'm thinking it's because she can wrap them right around her little finger, but I'm not positive about that! ;o)

Friday the Hughes arrived around suppertime and came laden with gifts from Virginia. A new hat with a K on it for Katherine and a stuffed chicken for Easter! Unfortunately Miss Katherine's head is still in the 90% and was WAY to big for her new hat, but that didn't stop her from wearing it! She LOVED it!

Saturday the guys spent the day touring around the Space Coast going to a car show and picking up some leftover stuff from our other house. Then we all piled into the Pilot and headed back to Viera (where our old house is) to feast on Pizza and Chicken Parm at a local Italian restaurant. Afterwards we went to the old house and Katherine, Christopher and CiCi piled into the Cobra to bring officially home to the new house. Katherine was loving cruising down US 1 with the top down. She is definitely an outdoor kid!

Sunday morning (and Easter) we got all dressed up in our Easter finest and headed out to church. Since moving within 2 miles of our church we have found it impossible to arrive on time! How did we EVER make it to the 8:15 service when we had a 45 minute drive?! Chris and I dropped K off at the nursery and hoofed it down to the sanctuary where we were seated in the front row (the only seats left) and as we sat the minister stood up for the greeting...phew! Just made it! Good thing it only takes us 3 minutes to get to church now! :) After church we headed home to get ready for the Corell/Hughes family lunch. Since my parents moved this weekend and we are still in the settling in process we opted for an easy lunch, but still yummy! We all stuffed ourselves and played with Katherine until she was completely pooped! She went down for a nap and my parents and grandparents headed back to my grandparents' house. CiCi, PaPa and Christopher went for a drive to enjoy the weather, while Katherine took a much needed nap! (I snuck in a nap as well!) :) Once she woke up we played in the yard with Colby and ate leftovers for dinner. A wonderfully relaxing evening. :) Katherine wore her Easter dress ALL day long. She refused to take it off for more comfortable play clothes. I think we are going to have a girly girl on our hands...

Monday the Hughes sadly headed home for Virginia. :( Katherine was very disappointed that CiCi and PaPa were "all gone" when she woke up Monday morning. Katherine, Grandaddy Corell and I spent the entire day organizing the garage and getting rid of junk...did I mention how happy this makes me?! haha. Christopher came home to a pleasantly organized garage instead of a complete mess...which is what it was prior to yesterday! We went to dinner last night with some friends and my parents and came home to crash!

Today has been plagued with tornado watches and severe thunderstorm warnings, so Katherine and I went to Lab School this morning and then stuck close to home catching up on work at the shop. Unfortunately the storms did not allow Miss Katherine a long nap, so we are a little bit cranky this afternoon, but nothing too bad!

The rest of the week looks like it will be spent further organizing and hopefully finally putting things where they belong...if the maintenance men cooperate! :)

Check out the shutterfly page for lots of pictures! There are a few below.
